Facilities Management’s Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Licensed Tradesperson to fulfill an integral role in serving our UVA hospital, research areas, and related facilities, serving our patients, visitors, and healthcare providers.
The Tradesperson independently responds to all emergency calls in the Health System Complex and maintains equipment to ensure proper operation during the scheduled shift. The incumbent maintains all systems in an operational condition and provides a safe and comfortable environment. While serving in their specific trade(s), the incumbent will triage and provide initial response to a wide variety of service calls such as in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire systems, clinical engineering, pneumatic Tube System, and elevator entrapments. Successful candidates will be customer-oriented with positive communication skills, quick thinking and adaptive to resolve issues, and committed to quality in support the health and wellness of the community.

The schedules available for this position will be as follows:
Weekend Days/Weekend Nights
Two 12-hour weekend shifts either day 7am-7pm or night shifts 7pm-7am
Plus, one 12-hour weekday overnight 7pm-7am or two 8-hour weekday overnights 11pm-7am
36 hour or 40 hour shifts options available
Night and weekend hours receive additional compensation through shift differential pay rates.
Duties Include:
Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repair for multiple building trades.
Respond independently to all emergency calls in the Health System Complex. Follow escalation protocols for unique or especially complex needs.
Maintain accurate daily logs of jobs and time tickets.
Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
Inform customers of job status and reasons for and duration of expected delays.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties/shifts may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of four years of experience in the plumbing, electrical, or HVAC trade. Experience in a hospital setting is strongly preferred.
Journeyman or higher license in either HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing. A valid Driver's license.
Use of computers and cell phones and accessories.
Must have Flu shots (Required by the Medical Center).
For this position, the selected candidates will need to complete all required background checks, including a Health Screen prior to the start date.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $26 - $32/hour, commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and credentials. Shift Differential pay rates to be included with this position (Varies per shift - $2.00 - $4.50/hr). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision, and sense of smell.
