Job Summary
FTBC is seeking an experienced Automation Technician to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing equipment. In this role, you will help ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and repairing automated production systems.
The ideal candidate has experience with industrial automation, PLCs, robotics, and stamping equipment and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where minimizing downtime and improving reliability are top priorities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on automated manufacturing equipment, stamping presses, robotics, conveyors, and production support systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment to identify root causes and restore production.
- Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled equipment, including basic programming modifications and I/O troubleshooting.
- Support the maintenance and adjustment of industrial robotic systems, including teach pendant operation and routine calibrations.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and hydraulic or pneumatic diagrams.
- Assist with die changes, equipment setup, and press adjustments to ensure safe operation and product quality.
- Maintain stamping press components, including lubrication systems, brakes, clutches, guarding, feeders, and related equipment.
- Install, test, and commission new equipment or production machinery as required.
- Document completed maintenance activities, work orders, and parts usage using the company's maintenance management system.
- Work closely with Engineering and Production to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Fabricate or repair parts using shop equipment when needed.
- Provide technical support during equipment upgrades and production improvement projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Three or more years of industrial maintenance experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting stamping presses in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens, including troubleshooting and basic programming.
- Experience maintaining industrial robots such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including 480V three-phase power.
- Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
- Experience with motor controls, VFDs, servo systems, HMIs, sensors, and industrial automation equipment.
- Familiarity with CMMS software for maintenance documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or rotating shifts as business needs require.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced PLC programming experience.
- Experience with industrial vision systems and integrated sensors.
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as EtherNet/IP or Profinet.
- Welding, machining, or fabrication experience.
- Familiarity with predictive or reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Experience with advanced stamping press controls and automation technologies.
