Position Summary
The Awake Overnight Direct Service Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing overnight support to learners in a residential setting, ensuring the consistent implementation of individualized programs and daily routines. Maintain accurate records including data logs, medication documentation, incident reports, and facility checklists. Support personal care, safety procedures, and adherence to household guidelines. Assist in preparing instructional materials, conducting emergency drills, and monitoring consumers' health and behavioral data. Participate in training, program evaluations, and maintain compliance with ethical, legal, and state regulatory standards while fostering a clean, safe, and structured living environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including data summaries, graphs, charts, and logs related to learner’s activities and behaviors as requested by the supervisor.
- Assist in creating and updating instructional materials such as schedules, task analyses, and error analyses to support clients learning.
- Conduct bed checks, document critical incidents, and provide supervision and assistance to learners as needed during overnight hours as requested by supervision.
- Ensure consistent implementation of learners individualized instructional programs, including documenting morning logs and behavioral data.
- Monitor and ensure that learners adhere to the rules and policies set by landlords and their designees.
- Support learners in preparing for their day, including personal appearance checks, and ensuring they are ready for work.
- Conduct and document quarterly overnight fire/evacuation drills, ensuring learners know how to safely evacuate in an emergency.
- Assist with and document the administration of prescribed medications, including daily/weekly pill counts and maintaining medication logs as requested by supervision.
- Oversee the inventory of food and household supplies, including maintaining grocery lists and managing online orders as requested by supervision. `
- Ensure the cleanliness and repair of the home, including completing weekly facility checklists and performing housekeeping duties.
- Actively participate in ongoing reviews, accept feedback from supervisors, and maintain open communication with colleagues and supervisors.
- Complete training assignments as requested and maintain up-to-date training files.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Participate in program inspections and evaluations, cooperating with NJ Department of Human Services staff as required.
- Maintain and provide updated professional credentials and certificates as required.
- Record and monitor data related to consumers' healthcare needs as required.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding consumers' intervention goals, progress, and personal information.
- Accurately submit time sheets and requests for reimbursement in a timely fashion.
- Maintain program files and records in an orderly fashion, perform record-keeping tasks as assigned.
- Perform all assigned program activities consistent with program policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in caregiving or related fields preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the requirements of the position.
- Prior experience in a residential care setting or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Criminal history check, including fingerprinting, central registry, child abuse registry checks, exclusionary and motor vehicle history checks is required.
- 4-panel drug testing at hire and at random after hire is required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The Awake Overnight Direct Service Professional position involves working in a residential home setting during nighttime and early morning hours. The role requires the ability to stay awake and alert throughout the entire shift and perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and assisting learners with mobility. Additionally, the position includes housekeeping duties like cleaning and organizing the facility. The work environment may involve exposure to challenging behaviors from learners and requires maintaining a calm, safe, and supportive atmosphere. The job also involves standing, walking, and moving between rooms regularly while interacting with other staff members and external stakeholders in a professional manner. This individual must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, squat, sit and lift up to 40 pounds regularly.
