Job Summary:
Responsible for coordinating and scheduling all aspects of the short-haul trucking operation. This position manages driver and equipment scheduling, route planning, freight coordination, customer service issues, and compliance with federal and state transportation regulations. The Dispatcher works closely with drivers, warehouse personnel, customers, and external service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective freight delivery.
Schedule:
Sunday: 7am-1pm (or until done)
Monday-Thursday: 9am-6pm (or until done)
Fridays and Saturdays off with the potential to work from home on Tuesdays once fully trained
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule drivers, trucks, and route assignments on a daily basis while monitoring available driver hours.
- Plan and optimize delivery routes to maximize customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Dispatch drivers in compliance with all applicable federal and state transportation regulations.
- Prepare, maintain, and coordinate delivery manifests.
- Work with the Loading Supervisor to ensure trucks are loaded properly and efficiently.
- Schedule and coordinate inbound freight deliveries.
- Respond to and resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints.
- Update route delivery sequence numbers as needed to improve delivery efficiency.
- Utilize the RydeSmart system and other transportation management software.
- Operate company vehicles when required.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repair needs with Ryder Garage.
- Participate in an on-call rotation as required.
- Schedule and track driver vacation time and availability.
Required Knowledge/Skills:
- Solid computer skills
- Ability to create documents with Microsoft Suite of programs
- Excellent follow-through, problem-solving, and customer service skills
- Valid driver's license
