Illuminate Educational Therapy Group is seeking a passionate Learning Specialist/Academic Tutor to join our growing private practice. We are hiring for positions serving students in Santa Monica, Calabasas, and surrounding areas.
This role is ideal for educators who enjoy helping middle and high school students build academic skills, confidence, organization, and independence through individualized support.
About the Role
Working primarily in students' homes, you'll provide academic tutoring and coaching to help students:
- Understand coursework across a variety of subjects
- Develop study skills and effective learning strategies
- Improve time management and organization
- Complete short- and long-term assignments
- Build executive functioning skills and productive work habits
- Set and achieve meaningful academic goals
You'll also serve as a trusted mentor, helping students navigate the demands of school while collaborating with families and other professionals when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Five or more years of experience working with students with learning differences preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and computer skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Passion for teaching and helping students succeed
- Friendly, engaging, flexible, and dependable
- Ability to adapt instruction to each student's unique learning style
- Comfortable collaborating with parents, teachers, and allied professionals
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience preferred
- Special Education experience is a plus
Responsibilities
- Build strong rapport with students
- Identify strengths, challenges, and academic goals
- Provide individualized tutoring and executive functioning support
- Track student progress and adjust strategies as needed
- Teach organization, planning, and time management skills
- Connect students with additional resources when appropriate
- Collaborate with each student's educational team to support long-term success
Requirements
- Availability during after-school hours (2:00–9:00 PM) and occasional weekends
- Reliable transportation for in-home sessions
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
