Duties
- Verify patient insurance coverage by contacting insurance providers directly or through electronic systems to confirm eligibility and benefits.
- Review and interpret medical insurance policies, including managed care plans, to determine coverage details.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality during all verification processes.
- Accurately input and update insurance information within medical records and billing systems.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve discrepancies related to insurance claims or coverage issues.
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document procedures and diagnoses.
- Maintain detailed records of verification activities and communicate effectively with patients regarding their insurance benefits and requirements.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of managed care plans, medical office procedures, and insurance verification processes.
- Experience working in a medical office environment with familiarity in medical records management.
- Proficiency in HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy and data security.
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies using CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers.
- Office experience with proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, medical coding practices, and the intricacies of medical billing processes.
