Position Overview
PickUp USA Fitness is seeking high-energy, self-motivated referees to lead and manage both adult pickup games and youth league play. This role goes beyond making calls — it’s about creating a structured, competitive, and fun environment while maintaining professionalism and safety on the court.
Referees are responsible for enforcing rules, managing game flow, handling conflict, and engaging with players of all ages — especially helping teach and develop youth athletes during live gameplay.
Schedule
- Adult Pickup Games:
- Tuesdays & Thursdays | 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Youth League Games:
Saturdays | Typically 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM(Schedule may extend based on registration and season demand)Key Responsibilities
- Officiate basketball games with consistency, fairness, and confidence
- Maintain control of the game while keeping energy high and competitive
- Manage player interactions and de-escalate conflicts professionally
- Ensure games stay on schedule and run efficiently
- Enforce league rules and PickUp USA standards
- Serve as a positive role model for youth athletes
- Teach and explain rules to younger players during gameplay when appropriate
- Work with staff to ensure a safe and organized game environment
- Assist with scoreboard or game tracking if needed
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of basketball rules and gameplay
- Ability to confidently make calls in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable handling conflict and communicating under pressure
- Positive attitude with the ability to bring energy and presence to the court
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
- Ability to connect with both adult players and youth athletes
- Previous officiating experience preferred (but not required — we can train the right person)
Uniform & Expectations
- Official referee shirt
- Black pants or shorts
- Athletic shoes
- Whistle required
- Arrive at least 5–10 minutes early for scheduled shifts
- Maintain professionalism on and off the court
