Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Journeyman Shipfitter to join our dynamic fabrication and construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, installing, and repairing metal structures and components with precision and adherence to safety standards. Your expertise in mechanical fabrication, blueprint reading, and welding will be essential to ensure the successful completion of complex projects on time and within specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse construction sites, utilizing advanced tools and techniques to bring innovative metalwork solutions to life.
Duties
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately assemble shipfitting components.
- Measure, cut, shape, and fit metal materials such as sheet metal and structural steel using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math.
- Perform welding operations including FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and gas metal arc welding in accordance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards and ASME codes.
- Use power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, and machining equipment for fabrication, assembly, and modification of metal parts.
- Assemble structural frameworks, piping systems, or other metal components following strict safety protocols and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety procedures at all times during fabrication shop activities or on construction sites.
Skills
- Extensive construction site experience with a strong understanding of safety protocols.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings for mechanical fabrication projects.
- Skilled in various welding techniques including FCAW, MIG, TIG, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding aligned with AWS standards.
- Mechanical knowledge of assembly processes involving metal materials like sheet metal and structural steel components.
- Experience with plasma cutting, cutting & burning torch, fabricating sheet metal structures, and using power tools safely.
- Familiarity with ASME codes & standards applicable to mechanical fabrication projects.
