For more than 40 years, Megson, Heagle & Friend, C.E. & L.S, LLC, has served the consulting engineering and land surveying needs of developers, municipalities, contractors and individuals. Megson, Heagle & Friend is a multi-disciplinary organization offering a wide variety of land use services starting with initial conceptual planning through to project completion and final documentation. Our services encompass the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, Land Use Planning and Wetland Delineation and Evaluation. Working for both the municipal and private sectors the staff is comprised of Professional Engineers, Licensed Land Surveyors and Soil Scientists.
We are seeking an Instrument Operator to join our Land Surveying Practice based in our Glastonbury, CT office.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Glastonbury, CT,
for a Land Surveyor. Responsibilities include performing and assisting with
topographic surveys, land boundary surveys, building surveys, and as-built
surveys. The role also involves operating and managing total station equipment,
analyzing survey data, and collaborating with engineers and clients to ensure
accuracy and deliverables meet project specifications. Fieldwork, data
collection, and mapping will be key components of daily tasks.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school / GED diploma
- A.S. or B.S. degree in applicable field, such as Surveying Technology, is encouraged

Responsibilities
- Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out of stakes for mapping, construction, easements, land and other surveys
- Familiar with and able to operate all of the instrumentation required for collection and distribution of survey data
- Cuts and clears brush from line of survey
- Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number or other identifying mark
- Installs stakes as necessary
- Collect and record electronic and written field notes
- Transmits survey data to proper files in the computer network, and able to acquire the data for field use
- Provides field and construction observation support, as necessary
- Support of other technical staff
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
