HVAC Lead Installer

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Lead Installer to join our growing team. This position is responsible for leading residential and light commercial HVAC installations from start to finish while ensuring every project meets our standards for quality, safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is an experienced HVAC installer who takes pride in doing the job right, can confidently lead an installation crew, and understands how to keep projects organized and on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership position—you’ll work alongside your team while providing direction, solving problems in the field, and ensuring customers receive professional, high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform installations and replacements of heating and cooling equipment, including air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers, and related HVAC components.
- Direct and assist installation team members throughout each project.
- Review job requirements and ensure the correct equipment, materials, and tools are available before and during installation.
- Install equipment, ductwork, refrigerant piping, drain lines, electrical components, thermostats, and related accessories according to project requirements.
- Properly start up, test, and commission newly installed HVAC systems.
- Verify proper airflow, refrigerant charge, electrical operation, drainage, controls, and overall system performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation-related issues in the field.
- Ensure installations comply with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, company standards, and safety requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
- Protect customers' homes and property throughout the installation process.
- Communicate professionally with customers and explain system operation, thermostat use, and basic maintenance after installation.
- Coordinate with supervisors, dispatch, sales, and other team members regarding project progress or unexpected job-site conditions.
- Complete required installation paperwork and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Train, mentor, and provide hands-on guidance to helpers and junior installers.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in good working condition.
- Identify opportunities to improve installation quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Previous HVAC installation experience required; lead installer or crew leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of residential HVAC systems, including heat pumps, split systems, furnaces, air handlers, and related equipment.
- Ability to read installation instructions, equipment specifications, wiring diagrams, and job documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of HVAC installation practices, refrigerant systems, electrical components, airflow, ductwork, and controls.
- Ability to lead a crew while remaining productive and hands-on in the field.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Professional communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- EPA Section 608 certification preferred.
- NATE certification or other industry certifications are a plus.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of HVAC installation work.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry HVAC equipment, tools, and materials.
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier equipment using appropriate equipment and team-lifting practices.
- Work on ladders and in attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other confined or elevated areas.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, gauges, meters, and HVAC installation equipment.
