Position Summary
Piedmont Steel Company is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and hands-on Bilingual Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day logistics of our structural steel erection operations throughout the Southeastern United States.
This position is responsible for coordinating the movement of equipment, tools, vehicles, materials, and operational resources that keep our field operations running efficiently. Working closely with the VP of Operations, Operations Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Safety, QA/QC, vendors, and suppliers, the Assistant Operations Manager helps ensure our jobsites are properly equipped, organized, and prepared for success.
Because this position serves as a primary point of communication between the field and the office, bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate with English- and Spanish-speaking employees, vendors, and subcontractors to support safe and efficient operations.
The ideal candidate is proactive, mechanically inclined, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced construction environment where no two days are the same.
Primary Responsibilities
Equipment & Tool Logistics
- Coordinate mobilization and demobilization of tools and equipment.
- Deliver tools, equipment, hardware, consumables, and materials to jobsites as needed.
- Pick up returned tools and equipment from completed projects.
- Stage equipment for upcoming projects.
- Assist with loading and unloading trailers.
- Coordinate equipment transfers between multiple jobsites.
- Maintain accurate tool and equipment inventory.
- Help reduce tool loss through tracking and accountability.
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
- Deliver trucks, trailers, forklifts, and equipment for repairs.
- Pick up repaired equipment.
- Perform routine vehicle and trailer inspections.
- Ensure fleet registration and inspection requirements remain current.
- Maintain equipment maintenance records.
Yard Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional equipment yard and warehouse.
- Organize gang boxes, storage containers, and equipment staging areas.
- Ensure trailers are properly stocked before mobilization.
- Maintain inventory of PPE, consumables, welding supplies, rigging, and commonly used materials.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying shipments.
Purchasing & Vendor Coordination
- Purchase emergency field materials and supplies.
- Coordinate deliveries with vendors and suppliers.
- Return rental equipment and unused materials.
- Assist with rental equipment scheduling.
- Develop strong working relationships with vendors.
Jobsite Support
- Respond quickly to field requests.
- Deliver emergency materials and replacement tools.
- Assist with project startup logistics.
- Assist Safety and QA/QC personnel when operational support is needed.
- Help coordinate special equipment deliveries.
- Ensure field personnel receive requested materials in a timely manner.
Administrative Support
- Maintain equipment inventory databases.
- Track equipment assignments.
- Maintain maintenance records.
- Track rental equipment.
- Assist with equipment budgeting and purchasing recommendations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Operations Department.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (verbal communication required).
- 3+ years of construction experience.
- Structural steel erection experience strongly preferred.
- Experience operating forklifts, aerial lifts, welders, skid steers, or similar equipment.
- Experience towing trailers.
- Experience with construction equipment and tools.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- CDL is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Frequently climb ladders and stairs.
- Operate pickup trucks while towing trailers.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Occasionally work at active construction sites.
- Travel throughout the Southeastern United States as business needs require.
Compensation
$70,000 – $75,000+ annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Additional travel-related compensation and company-provided vehicle, fuel card, technology, and business expenses provided.
