Position Summary
The Part-Time Lower School STEM Teacher supports the mission and values of the School by designing and delivering an engaging, developmentally appropriate STEM program for students in Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten. This role fosters curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Working in partnership with classroom teachers and academic leadership, the Part-Time STEM Teacher integrates interdisciplinary learning opportunities that encourage students to explore, collaborate, and think critically. The position plays a key role in helping students build confidence as learners while developing foundational skills in innovation, design thinking, and responsible use of technology.
Essential Functions
- Design and deliver a developmentally appropriate STEM curriculum aligned with school goals and best practices in early childhood and elementary education
- Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote exploration, creativity, and problem-solving
- Integrate science, technology, engineering, and math concepts in ways that are engaging and accessible to lower school students
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students
- Create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, collaboration, and a growth mindset
- Encourage students to take risks, embrace challenges, and develop confidence as learners
- Support students in developing confidence as learners and responsible users of technology
- Partner with Lower School teachers to support interdisciplinary connections and reinforce classroom learning
- Communicate effectively with faculty and families regarding student progress and classroom experiences
- Participate in faculty division, and team meetings
- Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods
- Maintain accurate records of student progress consistent with school expectations
- Provide timely feedback to support student growth
- Support a safe and organized classroom environment, including appropriate use of materials and equipment
- Assist with assigned school duties (e.g., lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal)
- Engage in ongoing professional development and remain current in STEM education practices and emerging technologies
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership
- Model professionalism and alignment with the school’s mission and core values
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, STEM Education, or a related field required
- Teaching experience in an elementary or lower school setting preferred
- Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate instructional practices
- Ability to design and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based STEM learning experiences
- Familiarity with elementary science, engineering, and introductory technology concepts
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to engage and motivate young learners
- Flexibility, creativity, and a student-centered mindset
