Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and Bi-Lingual (Spanish) Eligibility Financial Counselor to join our team. This role is responsible for assisting uninsured and under-insured patients in navigating the application process for Charity Care, Medicaid, and New Jersey FamilyCare. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare financial assistance programs and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Eligibility Assessment & Financial Screening:
Conduct financial screenings for uninsured and under-insured patients to determine eligibility for Charity Care, Medicaid, and New Jersey FamilyCare, through face-to-face interactions and phone consultations.
Application Support & Processing:
Assist patients in completing and submitting eligibility applications for Charity Care, Medicaid, and FamilyCare by collecting necessary documentation and data.
Follow-Up & Case Management:
Follow up with patients to ensure timely submission of required documentation and guide them through the Medicaid application process.
Referral & Resource Coordination:
Provide accurate referrals to state medical assistance programs and ensure patients are connected to appropriate services.
Communication & Documentation:
Send letters, make phone calls, and maintain thorough documentation of patient interactions and eligibility status. Maintain clear communication with patients, family members, and internal teams.
Support & Collaboration:
Collaborate with management to monitor and achieve client goals, ensuring financial assistance is processed efficiently.
Job Requirements:
Bi-Lingual Proficiency:
Must be fluent in Spanish and possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Spanish
Relevant Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare setting (doctor’s office, hospital, or clinic) is preferred.
Knowledge of Financial Assistance Programs:
Familiarity with Charity Care, Medicaid, New Jersey FamilyCare, and uncompensated care programs is highly desirable.
Healthcare and Insurance Knowledge:
A strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance verification processes is a plus.
Patient Registration & Business Office Operations:
Knowledge of patient registration processes and business office operations is preferred.
Experience in Financial Counseling:
A minimum of two years of experience in financial counseling or a related field is preferred.
Technical Proficiency:
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. Familiarity with hospital patient accounting systems (e.g., EPIC) is a plus.

Commitment to upholding HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Compensation:
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
