Job Overview
Addison Pain is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our compassionate healthcare team! This preferred candidate should be detail-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated with good computer skills & good communication skills. This position plays a crucial role in providing clinical support in a fast-paced medical environment, and requires a solid understanding of medical terminology, patient care, and the ability to work effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. We work collaboratively with the providers within a strong team setting to facilitate quality care for the patient.
GENERAL DUTIES
When in clinic:
- Respect client’s rights and maintains confidentiality of patient information; HIPPA compliant
- Handle phone triage
- Room patients
- Take vital signs and patient history
- Enter patient data into electronic medical records
- Communicate clearly with the provider of changes in patient’s condition
- Prepare rooms for exams and procedures, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Clean and stock exam rooms and supply cabinets
- Assist with first aide emergencies
- Verify insurance pre-authorization for medications, imaging, and procedures
- Read lab reports
- Inform patients of lab results, tests due and/or appointments needed
- Assist the provider with ordering and scheduling procedures
- Send referrals and orders to outside facilities
- Communicate with patients in a clear and compassion manner
- Good knowledge of medical terminology
When in OR:
- Preop patients for surgical procedures.
- Verifying that preadmit testing and imaging has been completed and results have been reported to anesthesiologist, and Doctor to be cleared for procedure.
- Obtain surgical and anesthesia consents on the day of procedure.
- Ensure vital signs and labs are within normal limits and report abnormalities to physician and anesthesiologist before procedure.
- Safely draw blood from patients and spin-down in centrifuge and prepare plasma for Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy injections.
- Start IV, draw labs as needed, administer intravenous fluids and medication per physician orders or anesthesia protocol.
- Assist with any procedures when required by physician.
- Postoperatively receive patients from anesthesia and obtain reports.
- Maintain airway, monitor vitals remain within normal limits, RASS score, assess injection site for excessive bleeding or hematoma and pain levels are within normal limits, giving PRN medications per protocol and physicians orders.
- Report any patient issues or abnormality findings post-procedure to anesthesiologist and Doctor and follow any orders received.
- Remove IV catheter and apply pressure dressing.
- Ensure patient safety until stable and ready for discharge.
- Educate patients on discharge instructions and verify understanding and verify follow up appointments have been scheduled.
- Safely ambulate patient to vehicle for transport home.
- Accurately document all elements of nursing assessment, treatments, medications, discharge instructions and follow-up care.
- Assist with any Rapid Response Codes as needed per ACLS algorithm for life-saving measures.
- Properly clean each patient bed with approved germicidal and redrape bed after each patient discharge.
