After-School Enrichment Instructor
CodeFu San Fernando Valley | Part-Time | On-Site
We hire for energy and connection with kids first. We'll train you on the curriculum.
If you've worked as a camp counselor, after-school program leader, or youth instructor — and you know how to walk into a room of elementary schoolers and immediately have them with you — that's the skill we're hiring for. The tech side is something we can teach. The ability to engage kids, manage a classroom with warmth and confidence, and make learning feel like an event? That you bring with you.
About CodeFu San Fernando Valley
CodeFu is an after-school coding and STEAM enrichment program serving elementary school students (K–5th) at school campuses across the greater Los Angeles area. Our guiding principle: we are teachers first, programmers second. We choose instructors for their ability to connect with and teach young students — not for their coding credentials.
Our programs span introductory through advanced coursework in Scratch, Python, robotics, Minecraft modding, and website design — plus chess instruction and off-screen STEAM activities to keep students active and engaged. All curriculum is provided and supported; you're delivering a proven program, not building one from scratch.
What You'll Do
- Lead groups of 10–15 elementary school students through structured, hands-on lessons in a school setting
- Bring the energy and enthusiasm of a camp counselor while maintaining the structure and respect of a classroom — this balance is the job
- Deliver CodeFu's provided curriculum and adapt on the fly: adjust pacing, activities, or setup based on what your group needs that day
- Build genuine rapport with students and make them excited to show up each week
- Represent CodeFu professionally within the school community — parents and administrators will see you regularly
What We're Looking For
- Direct experience working with groups of kids — after-school programs, summer camps, youth sports coaching, tutoring, classroom aide work, or similar. This is the most important thing on this list.
- Outgoing, warm, and naturally engaging — you're comfortable being the energy in the room
- Basic comfort with technology — you're not intimidated by tablets, Chromebooks, or learning new tools alongside students
- Reliable and communicative — you show up, you give us a heads up when something comes up, and you take the school environment seriously
- Some experience in a structured K–12 or youth program setting strongly preferred
- Coding or computer science background is a plus — but not required. We provide full training on our curriculum.
Ideal Backgrounds
Camp counselor · After-school program staff · Youth program coordinator · Classroom aide · Tutor · Chess coach or club leader · College student in Education, Child Development, Liberal Arts, or related field · Part-time or retired teacher · Anyone who genuinely loves working with kids and can learn the rest
Compensation & Schedule
- $35-45/hour
- 1–3 hours per week to start, with additional hours available in Spring and Summer sessions
- Flexible scheduling within the 3:00–5:00pm window on available school days
- Part-time, W2 position — ideal for college students, part-time teachers, camp professionals, or anyone building a career in education or youth development
