The Food Safety & Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing food safety, sanitation, quality, and regulatory compliance within the facility. Working under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position ensures that operations follow established GMP, SSOP, HACCP, OSHA, and other applicable food safety and quality standards.
This role works closely with production, inspection, warehouse, and administrative teams to identify and address compliance issues, maintain accurate documentation, provide employee training, and ensure products are handled and prepared for shipment according to established standards.
- Monitor facility compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and promptly communicate any non-compliant practices or safety concerns to the Plant Manager.
- Manage, maintain, and implement Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), recommending updates and improvements to the Plant Manager as needed.
- Manage, maintain, and implement the facility's Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program and recommend updates based on operational needs, findings, or regulatory requirements.
- Monitor inspection, detection, and production line activities for compliance with established SSOP, HACCP, GMP, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate corrective actions with Inspection Line Leads and other appropriate personnel. Communicate corrective actions to the Plant Manager and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Review daily inspection reports for quality, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures. Submit completed reports to the appropriate administrative team and recommend process improvements as needed.
- Review inspection line seed logs for accuracy and compliance with established procedures and submit reports daily.
- Review and monitor temperature logs to ensure compliance with established food safety and quality requirements.
- Review contaminant retrieval reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
- Monitor the secure storage and proper handling of approved cleaning and sanitation products.
- Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are readily available for all approved cleaning and sanitation products.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the facility's pest management program and coordinate service needs with the Plant Manager.
- Develop and implement deep-cleaning schedules for warehouse perimeters, inspection equipment, forklifts, trailers, yard equipment, ceilings, fixtures, and other areas identified in the master cleaning schedule.
- Conduct SSOP and GMP training for new hires and provide required annual training for X-ray Operators, Line Leads, Forklift Operators, and other applicable employees.
- Maintain accurate employee training records, forms, and compliance logs.
- Provide production and inspection line coverage as needed to support operations.
- Create and maintain required master and project documentation for each project once a truck is scheduled or arrives at the facility.
- Coordinate with Warehouse Administration to monitor project progress and ensure work is completed properly, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and monitor work activities to ensure operational and quality requirements are met.
- Provide immediate performance feedback and coaching when appropriate and assist with resolving employee conflicts and short-term operational issues related to safety, attendance, conduct, or performance.
- Monitor outbound products to ensure they meet established quality, food safety, packaging, and shipping requirements prior to release.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to food safety, sanitation, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Plant Manager.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 3–5 years of progressive production, quality, food safety, or supervisory experience, preferably within the food manufacturing, food processing, inspection, or related industry.
- Hands-on experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Working knowledge of FDA food safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
- Experience with HACCP and sanitation programs preferred.
- Experience with 5S methodology preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Six Sigma certification or training preferred but not required.
- Additional food safety, HACCP, GMP, or quality-related certifications are a plus.
- Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance practices.
- Understanding of GMP, SSOP, HACCP, and FDA requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general computer applications.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, reports, logs, and compliance documentation.
