Wild Florida is looking for enthusiastic, responsible, and safety-minded individuals to join our team as Airboat Captains. Airboat Captains are responsible for operating airboats and providing an exciting, educational, and safe experience for our guests.
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, interacting with people, and sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for Florida's wildlife and environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Wild Florida airboats while transporting guests.
- Provide entertaining, informative, and engaging airboat tours.
- Educate guests about Florida's wildlife, ecosystem, and natural environment.
- Maintain a professional, friendly, and welcoming attitude with guests.
- Follow all company safety procedures and operational guidelines.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of airboats.
- Monitor weather and environmental conditions while operating the boat.
- Communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, and management.
- Assist guests with boarding and exiting the airboat when needed.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of the airboat and surrounding areas.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety issues, or unusual wildlife activity to management.
- Maintain a high level of awareness and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid Master Captains License thru the United States Coast Guard
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in Florida heat and weather conditions.
- Able to work around wildlife and in an outdoor environment.
- Able to remain calm and professional in unexpected situations.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.
- Previous boating, tour-guide, or customer-service experience is a plus.
- Airboat experience is preferred but not required; training may be provided to qualified candidates.
- Must be able to successfully complete Wild Florida's required training and captain qualification process.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Work outdoors for extended periods of time.
- Sit, stand, walk, and climb in and around airboats.
- Assist guests when boarding and exiting.
- Work in hot, humid, rainy, and changing weather conditions.
- Safely perform job duties around water, wildlife, and moving equipment.
Schedule
This is an outdoor tourism position, and availability will need to include weekends, holidays, and peak tourism periods. Scheduling will vary based on business needs and seasonal demand.
Pay: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour
