Position Overview
Our client, a well-established international freight forwarder and customs brokerage, is seeking an experienced Import Manager (Licensed Customs Broker) to lead their import operations and customs compliance team.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of import customs clearance, regulatory compliance, and team performance while ensuring exceptional service delivery to customers across multiple industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of approximately 9 import and customs professionals.
- Oversee day-to-day import operations and customs brokerage activities.
- Ensure compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and partner government agency requirements.
- Provide expertise in tariff classification, customs valuation, and import compliance matters.
- Manage regulatory requirements related to FDA, Lacey Act, Fish & Wildlife, DOT, and other government agencies as applicable.
- Review and resolve complex customs entries, audits, and compliance issues.
- Maintain and improve import processes, SOPs, and operational efficiencies.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for customs regulations, trade compliance, and import procedures.
- Support customers across a diverse range of commodities including apparel, machinery, automotive parts, consumer products, books, and media products.
- Partner with leadership to ensure service excellence, compliance, and profitability goals are achieved.
QualificationsRequired
- Active U.S. Customs Broker License (LCB).
- 5+ years of customs brokerage and import operations experience.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing customs/import personnel.
- Strong knowledge of FDA regulations and import compliance requirements.
- Extensive experience with tariff classification and customs regulations.
- Strong understanding of CBP regulations and customs entry procedures.
Preferred
- Experience with Lacey Act, Fish & Wildlife, DOT, and other PGA requirements.
- Freight forwarding and customs brokerage industry experience.
- Experience with CargoWise or similar logistics software.
- Background handling apparel, machinery, automotive, and consumer goods imports.
- Process improvement and operational management experience.
