We are looking for an experienced Solar Roofing Foreman to lead rooftop solar installation crews, oversee jobsite execution, maintain safety and quality standards, and ensure every project is completed efficiently, professionally, and to Solanta’s standards.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Roofing Foreman is responsible for leading roofing and solar installation crews in the field, with a strong focus on rooftop layout, mounting, flashing, waterproofing, safety, crew productivity, and overall installation quality.
This is a rooftop field position, you will be working on roofs daily and must be fully comfortable climbing ladders, working at heights, walking and working on flat and pitched rooftops, carrying materials onto roofs, and leading crews on the best practices installing various roofing systems.
The ideal candidate already understands both roof and solar installation processes, can read and execute plans, communicate clearly with crews and project managers, troubleshoot field issues, and ensure work is completed safely, cleanly, and on schedule.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead daily rooftop solar installation operations and manage crew members on active jobsites.
Work on roofs daily, including flat roofs, pitched roofs, multifamily rooftops, residential rooftops, and commercial rooftops.
Review project plans, CAD drawings, roof layouts, electrical plans, and installation scopes before and during each project.
Supervise and install roof materials to approved manufacturer specifications
Lay out rooftop solar arrays according to approved plans, site conditions, setbacks, obstructions, and field measurements.
Oversee and assist with the installation of racking, mounting hardware, solar modules, roof attachments, flashing, waterproofing, conduit, wire management, and related equipment.
Ensure all roof penetrations, flashing, waterproofing, and mounting details are completed properly and to Solanta’s quality standards.
Identify, repair, or escalate improper roof flashing, roof damage, installation deficiencies, leaks, or jobsite concerns.
Protect customer property and ensure every roof is left clean, safe, and properly sealed.
Troubleshoot and diagnose solar-related issues in the field, including PV system performance, inverter issues, wiring concerns, and installation errors.
Identify, understand, and troubleshoot multiple PV inverter and module-level power electronics systems.
Use troubleshooting tools and software, including multi-meters, Enlighten Toolkit, monitoring platforms, and manufacturer resources.
Read and interpret manuals, schematics, installation guides, and technical documentation to plan work and solve field issues.
Perform and oversee AC and DC wiring of solar arrays and related system components within the scope of experience and licensing requirements.
Coordinate with project managers, electricians, designers, and office staff regarding job progress, field discrepancies, material needs, and schedule updates.
Revise or mark up drawings based on field conditions and discrepancies.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and provide clear updates on project status, blockers, and next steps.
Train, mentor, and develop roof installers, solar installers, and junior crew members.
Maintain jobsite cleanliness, professionalism, and respect for customer property.
Communicate professionally with customers when needed and represent Solanta in a positive manner.
Participate in site visits, field measurements, and cost estimating as required.
Lead weekly van inspections and ensure vehicles are organized, stocked, clean, and equipped with properly working tools and materials.
Monitor crew safety, ladder safety, fall protection, PPE usage, tool use, roof safety, and general jobsite compliance.
Manage and lead special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
3+ years of solar installation experience, roofing experience, or related construction/electrical field experience.
Prior crew lead, foreman, or jobsite leadership experience strongly preferred.
Must be fully comfortable working on roofs every day, including climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying materials, walking flat and pitched rooftops, and following all fall-protection and roof-safety procedures.
Strong understanding of rooftop solar installation, racking, mounting, flashing, waterproofing, and roof safety.
Ability to read and execute CAD drawings, roof plans, electrical plans, and installation documents.
Experience with PV system troubleshooting, inverter systems, and basic AC/DC electrical wiring.
Ability to use multi-meters, hand tools, power tools, ladders, fall protection, and standard solar installation equipment.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work safely at heights, on rooftops, ladders, stairs, and in challenging outdoor environments including heat, cold, wind, and tight spaces.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly without assistance.
Ability to stand, climb, kneel, bend, carry materials, dig trenches or holes, and work with tools above shoulder height.
Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally with crew members, customers, project managers, and other trades.
Reliable transportation to and from work.
Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience as a Solar Foreman, Roofing Foreman, Lead Installer, or Crew Lead.
Experience with NYC rooftop solar projects, flat roofs, pitched roofs, canopies, pergolas, or custom solar structures.
Knowledge of Enphase systems, Enlighten Toolkit, AP Systems, EcoFlow, Tesla, and other major solar equipment platforms.
OSHA 30 certification and 32 hour NYC SST Supervisor
NABCEP Associate or other solar-related certifications
Electrical, roofing, or general construction background
Experience working on brownstones, multifamily buildings, commercial rooftops, and complex urban job sites
