The Steel Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for:
- Structural steel packages
- Steel erection
- Miscellaneous steel (stairs, railings, embeds, ladders, etc.)
- Connections, detailing coordination, and erection scopes
This position plays a key role in bid strategy, subcontractor coordination, and overall project planning.
Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specs, and addenda for commercial and industrial projects
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare complete bid proposals and scope clarifications
- Identify scope gaps, risk items, and value engineering opportunities
- Coordinate with project managers and operations staff during hand-off
- Track bid results and maintain historical cost data
Qualifications
- 3+ years estimating experience in structural and/or miscellaneous steel
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection practices
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications
- Experience with pre-engineered metal building systems preferred
- Proficiency in takeoff and estimating software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously
