Slitter Machine Operator
Shift: 6am-230pm Monday-Friday
Pay: $18-$20 BOE
Primary Purpose & Function
Cardinal Staffing is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Slitter Machine Operator to set up and operate steel slitting equipment used to process steel coils into specified widths according to customer requirements. This position is responsible for machine setup, quality inspections, documentation, preventative maintenance, and leading the slitter crew to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate slitting machines according to work orders and customer specifications.
- Read and interpret work orders, charts, production documents, and cutting instructions.
- Install and adjust spacers, shims, rotary blades, and tooling for proper machine setup.
- Load steel coils onto uncoilers and thread material through the slitting line.
- Monitor machine operation and material flow to identify defects, irregular cuts, or quality concerns.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
- Complete production documentation, inventory tags, ship tags, and inspection records.
- Utilize measuring instruments including tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
- Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance on machinery and tooling.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with 5S practices.
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and minimizing scrap.
- Provide guidance and direction to helpers and slitter support personnel.
- Ensure all safety procedures and PPE requirements are followed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous slitter machine operation or steel processing experience preferred.
- Ability to accurately read tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
- Experience reading work orders, blueprints, and production specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of steel processing, manufacturing, and quality inspection procedures.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements and maintain detailed records.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery and industrial equipment.
- Comfortable working in a loud manufacturing environment.

Work Environment
Industrial steel processing facility with exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, overhead cranes, and production equipment. Employees are required to wear PPE and follow all company safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures.
