About the Role
Gainesboro Modern Museum of Contemporary Art is seeking a friendly, reliable Museum Assistant to serve as the on-site anchor during open hours. This role is essential to creating a welcoming visitor experience while keeping daily operations, scheduling, and volunteer coordination running smoothly.
This is an operations and community-facing role, not a curatorial or fundraising position, but it does play an important part in encouraging visitors to become more involved with the museum.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Experience
- Greet visitors and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere
- Share basic information about exhibitions, programs, and events
- Encourage visitors to sign up for the museum email list
- Share ways to support the museum, including donations and volunteering
- Maintain a calm, respectful environment
Daily Operations
- Open and close the museum following established procedures
- Monitor galleries and ensure artwork safety
- Handle basic shop transactions
- Maintain cleanliness and order in public spaces
- Report incidents or concerns to the founders promptly
- Coordinate with volunteers to ensure front desk coverage when needed
Event Support
- Assist with setup and breakdown for programs and events
- Support volunteers during events
- Help manage guest flow and wayfinding
Ideal Candidate
- Dependable, punctual, and organized
- Friendly and comfortable interacting with the public
- Calm under pressure and attentive to detail
- Able to follow procedures and communicate clearly
No museum experience required. Customer service or hospitality experience is a plus.

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
