The Primary Clinical RN Lead will help ensure each surgical day runs safely, efficiently, and according to the highest standards of patient care and service.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical and Clinical Leadership
Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment while overseeing the daily clinical and surgical operations of multiple operating rooms. Coordinate surgical schedules involving multiple plastic surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, scrub technicians, and support staff, and serve as the primary clinical and nursing resource for the surgical team. Manage staffing assignments, patient readiness, room turnover, workflow, and operating room efficiency while ensuring clear and accurate handoff communication regarding each patient’s condition and response to care.
Perioperative Nursing
Assess and monitor patients throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of care. Complete preoperative assessments, medication reconciliation, chart reviews, patient education, and verification of all required clearances, laboratory results, consents, and documentation. Circulate and assist with surgical procedures as needed while maintaining proper sterile technique. Monitor patients during recovery, promptly recognize changes in condition, and assist with pain management, discharge planning, postoperative instructions, and safety evaluations.
Operating Room Coordination
Ensure each operating room is properly staffed, prepared, and equipped before every procedure. Confirm that all required instruments, implants, medications, supplies, equipment, and safety resources are available and ready for use. Coordinate surgical needs with surgeons, anesthesia providers, vendors, and administrative staff while overseeing sterile processing, infection prevention, emergency equipment readiness, and required surgical documentation.
Inventory and Purchasing
Manage clinical and operating room inventory, including ordering medical supplies, medications, implants, instruments, and equipment. Monitor stock levels, expiration dates, controlled medications, and supply usage while maintaining organized storage areas and preventing shortages, overstocking, and waste. Coordinate with vendors, assist with purchasing decisions, and maintain accurate inventory and ordering records.
Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Patient Experience
Maintain compliance with AAAA accreditation standards and all applicable federal, state, OSHA, infection prevention, medication safety, and office-based surgery requirements. Ensure continued readiness for accreditation surveys, inspections, and audits, and serve as a clinical resource regarding perioperative guidelines, practice policies, and accreditation standards.
Provide compassionate, attentive, and professional care throughout the surgical experience. Maintain a calm, pleasant, and accommodating manner with patients, families, physicians, and staff. Educate patients regarding surgical preparation, postoperative recovery, medications, and expected outcomes, respond appropriately to concerns, maintain confidentiality, and represent the practice with a polished professional demeanor.
