About the Position
Hearts & Minds Daycare is seeking an experienced, dependable Lead Group Teacher to join our Limited-Care & Saturday Team.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide consistent leadership and classroom coverage during our predetermined limited-care days throughout the 2026–2027 program year.
This is a lead position. The selected teacher will be responsible for leading their assigned classroom and providing direction to the Assistant Teachers, Floaters, and other support staff scheduled alongside them during these dates.
Our limited-care dates are established in advance and listed below, allowing candidates to know the expected schedule before accepting the position.
In addition to the dates below, consistent Saturday work is available beginning October 2026. Optional weekday substitute/on-call opportunities may also be available.
This position may be especially well suited for an experienced early childhood teacher, retired educator, current teacher, school-based professional, or childcare professional looking for predictable supplemental employment.

Additional Saturday Work
Consistent Saturday shifts are available beginning October 2026.
Saturday/limited-care program hours are 7:30 AM–5:00 PM.
As the Lead Group Teacher, the selected candidate should be available for the full scheduled day and will take the lead in their classroom and with the staff assigned to work alongside them.
The program is closed when an applicable federal holiday falls on a Saturday.
Optional weekday substitute/on-call opportunities may also be available based on program needs and staff availability.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise an early childhood classroom
- Provide direction and guidance to Assistant Teachers, Floaters, and support staff assigned to the classroom
- Maintain active supervision and required staff-to-child ratios
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate learning experiences, activities, and play
- Coordinate classroom routines and staff responsibilities throughout the day
- Support meals, toileting, rest, transitions, and other daily routines
- Maintain a safe, organized, welcoming classroom environment
- Ensure established classroom and program procedures are followed
- Communicate professionally with families and team members
- Respond appropriately to routine classroom and staffing needs
- Complete required classroom documentation
- Complete assigned opening and closing responsibilities
Qualifications
We are seeking an experienced early childhood professional who is comfortable taking the lead during their assigned shifts.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Early childhood teaching experience
- Qualifying Early Childhood Education coursework, degree, CDA, or related credentials
- Experience as a Group Teacher, Lead Teacher, Head Teacher, or comparable early childhood position
- Experience working collaboratively with and providing direction to classroom support staff
- Strong understanding of early childhood supervision, safety, routines, and classroom management
- Dependability and strong professional judgment
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Ability to complete all required NYC childcare clearances, health documentation, and onboarding requirements
