Job Summary
USACC is hiring a Construction Consultant based in the Sacramento/Bay Area, California area to manage an active portfolio of construction loan monitoring projects on behalf of our bank clients. This is a hybrid role that combines the responsibilities of a traditional, on-site Construction Consultant with the coordination and reporting responsibilities of managing a national portfolio of 1099 field-consultant and virtual-inspection projects.
For projects located in and around the Sacramento/San Jose/San Francisco metro area (generally within a day's travel), the consultant will perform the site inspection personally, as our other regional full-time, direct-hire Construction Consultants do. For projects located elsewhere in the country, the consultant will own the client relationship and reporting for a portfolio of projects supported either by a local 1099 field consultant who performs the physical site visit, or by a virtual walkthrough coordinated directly with the GC or Owner. In both cases, this consultant remains the visible, accountable point of contact for the bank client — coordinating field consultants or virtual walkthroughs, engaging directly with GCs, Owners, and OAC meetings as needed, and producing the final report.
This role reports to a Senior Consultant / Operations Director, who provides technical review and support on report questions, as well as day-to-day support as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own an assigned portfolio of active construction loan monitoring projects, serving as the single point of contact and the visible representative of USACC to the bank client on each project.
- For local (California area) projects: personally perform the monthly on-site draw inspection, walk the site with or interface directly with the GC (including OAC meetings as needed), and evaluate the draw request against the budget, schedule, and construction documents.
- For 1099-supported projects: coordinate scheduling and follow-up with the assigned local 1099 field consultant, review the photographs, observations, and documentation they submit, and follow up directly for clarification when needed.
- For virtual-inspection projects: coordinate and conduct a live virtual walkthrough directly with the GC or Owner in lieu of a physical site visit, capturing the same level of observation and documentation a physical visit would provide.
- Communicate directly with GCs, Owners, and bank clients on all portfolio projects regarding items such as change order documentation, deposits or offsite stored material backup, and clarification of specific draw line items being billed.
- Review plans, contracts, schedules, change order documentation, permitting, materials testing reports, and other construction documents to assess conformance with the intended final product and delivery timeline.
- Receive draw requests from Owners, Lenders, and GCs; coordinate scheduling of the inspection or virtual walkthrough (with support from our Admin Team); and produce a written report in CenterPoint (our online reporting platform) within required timelines and to company quality standards.
- Submit completed reports to the office Admin Team for delivery to the bank client.
- Work volume is generally heavier during the first 10 days of each month, as most contractor draw requests are submitted around month-end.

- Occasional overnight travel may become necessary at times, but is not expected to be significant. Local site visits stay within a day's travel of the Sacramento/San Jose area; other portfolio projects are managed remotely.
Qualifications
- Engineering or building construction degree.
- 5+ years of construction or engineering experience, typically as a design engineer, engineering/construction consultant, or construction project manager/superintendent.
- Strong computer, writing, and typing skills, with the ability to operate efficiently in a digital reporting environment (CenterPoint).

Experience & Traits
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Comfortable being the primary point of contact with GCs, Owners, and bank clients — confident communicating both in person/on-site and remotely (phone, video, email).
- Familiarity with, or a strong desire to learn, reading project plans, construction costs and timelines, soils/engineering reports, GC construction agreements, and related due diligence documentation.
- Ability to accurately and simply convey findings in a technical report to non-technical clients.
- Comfortable coordinating and managing the work of others (1099 field consultants) on projects the consultant does not personally visit.
- Preference for working in a small business environment with minimal oversight; once trained, works independently with support from the home office and senior management.

- Flexible work hours, with work-from-home available for portions of the week once trained; some office time may be required during initial training.
