POSITION OVERVIEW
Alden Laurel is seeking a skilled and reliable Hardscape Technician to join our hardscape installation team in delivering residential landscape projects to the highest standard of craftsmanship and care.
This is a hands-on field role. You will work as part of a crew under the direction of crew leadership and management, executing the construction of patios, walkways, retaining walls, and other hardscape features with precision and pride. You bring experience in hardscape or masonry construction, a strong work ethic, and an eye for detail. You understand that clean lines, proper base preparation, and careful material handling are what separate good hardscapes from great ones, and that the finished work carries the reputation of everyone who built it.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Execution & Teamwork
- Perform daily hardscape construction tasks on residential job sites under the direction of the crew leadership and Director of Design/Build
- Maintain clear communication with the crew leadership and management on task progress, site conditions, and any issues that arise
- Assist with unloading, staging, and layout of materials; including natural stone and other hardscape materials
- Maintain the highest standards of timeliness, cleanliness, and organization of tools, trucks, and safety standards on project sites
- Work efficiently and safely as part of a crew, following the direction and pace set by the crew leadership
- Support the onboarding of new crew members by modeling Alden Laurel's standards of quality and care
Hardscape Installation & Craftsmanship
- Assist in all phases of hardscape installation, including excavation, base preparation, compaction, and grading
- Install natural stone and other hardscape materials to proper line, grade, and pattern
- Construct and assist with retaining walls, steps, walkways, and patios in accordance with design plans and industry best practices
- Review design plans on site with crew leadership and management, flagging discrepancies before proceeding
- Uphold craftsmanship and structural integrity on every project, ensuring finished work reflects the design and meets Alden Laurel's quality standards
Site Operations & Logistics
- Support daily site setup, organization, and close-out, including material staging, tool accountability, and site cleanliness
- Assist with coordinating delivery of aggregate, stone, paver, and other hardscape materials as directed by crew leadership and management
- Operate and perform basic maintenance checks on hand tools, power tools, and small equipment (plate compactors, saws, mixers); report mechanical issues promptly
- Assist with debris disposal, material handling, and organization of the yard and storage areas as needed
Site Stewardship & Safety
- Follow proper safety procedures when operating equipment, cutting stone or pavers, and working near utilities
- Protect existing plantings, irrigation, and site features during hardscape construction
- Assist with temporary erosion control, drainage, and site protection measures as directed
- Support proper storage and handling of materials to minimize waste and site impact
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Hands-on experience in hardscape, masonry, or general construction, with working knowledge of paver and natural stone installation
- Understanding of base preparation, compaction, grading, and drainage fundamentals for hardscape structures
- Ability to follow direction, work efficiently as part of a team, and maintain quality and attention to detail under the guidance of crew leadership and management
- Comfort operating hand tools and small power equipment (plate compactors, saws, mixers) safely and correctly
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work, including lifting heavy materials, across a full New England season
Preferred
- 3+ years of professional experience in residential hardscape installation
- Experience with retaining wall systems, steps, and dry-laid or mortared stonework
- Familiarity with reading design plans and grading/layout markers in the field
- Knowledge of basic civil concepts: grading, drainage, and site infrastructure
- OSHA 10 certification, or willingness to obtain (reimbursed by Alden Laurel)
