Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, ensuring accurate documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Support clinical teams by preparing patients for examinations or procedures and assisting with medical documentation and medication administration under supervision.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper hand hygiene practices; assist with catheter care and wound management when needed.
- Engage with patients across diverse settings including long-term care facilities, hospitals (including ICU, emergency, trauma centers), outpatient clinics, and home care environments.
- Work with individuals with disabilities or cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, providing specialized memory and behavioral health support.
- Utilize medical terminology knowledge to accurately communicate patient status to healthcare professionals and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Experience
- Prior experience working in healthcare environments such as hospitals (including ICU, PICU, Level I/II trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home & community care is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks or similar platforms for medical documentation.
- Experience in specialized care areas such as hospice, infectious disease management, geriatrics, behavioral health, or post-acute care enhances your ability to excel in this role.
- Knowledge of physiology and anatomy fundamentals supports effective patient monitoring and care delivery.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as urgent care or emergency medicine units while maintaining high standards of patient service and safety.
