Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Behavior Technician (BT) to provide direct behavioral and educational support to students with behavioral, emotional, developmental, and special education needs. The Behavior Technician will work closely with behavior specialists, school psychologists, special education staff, and teachers to implement individualized behavior plans and help students develop positive behaviors and succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct one-on-one or small-group behavioral support to students.
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Positive Behavior Support Plans, and IEP behavioral supports.
- Support students experiencing behavioral escalation, including aggression, elopement, property destruction, and emotional dysregulation.
- Apply evidence-based de-escalation and positive behavior support strategies.
- Support students with autism, developmental disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities, and limited or nonverbal communication.
- Collect and accurately document behavioral data, including frequency, duration, interval, ABC data, and anecdotal observations.
- Maintain accurate daily service logs and required documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers, behavior specialists, school psychologists, and other members of the student support team.
- Follow established behavioral protocols and individualized student plans consistently.
- Maintain student confidentiality and comply with school policies and procedures.
- Adapt to changes in student assignments, schools, and schedules as needed.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of direct experience supporting individuals with significant behavioral needs, OR current RBT/BT certification or equivalent behavioral credential.
- Direct experience in school-based, therapeutic, behavioral health, or special education settings preferred.
- Experience managing high-intensity behavioral situations.
- Experience supporting individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities, or limited/nonverbal communication.
- Demonstrated ability to implement BIPs, Positive Behavior Support Plans, and related behavioral interventions.
- Strong communication, documentation, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior school-based Behavior Technician experience.
- Experience collecting and documenting behavioral data.
- Knowledge of ABC data collection, frequency, duration, and interval recording.
- Experience with structured de-escalation techniques and behavioral protocols.
- RBT/BT certification or equivalent credential.

- Flexibility to accept short-notice changes to school, student, or assignment schedules.
- Maintain professional conduct and student confidentiality at all times.
- Follow school communication protocols and do not directly communicate with families or share personal contact information unless authorized.
- Complete all required daily documentation accurately and on time.
Important: Candidates whose experience is limited to general PCA/caregiver duties without direct, high-intensity behavioral experience should not be submitted for this Behavior Technician position.
