Job Description:
We are looking for a friendly and organized Student Volunteer - Medical Assistant to assist with both administrative and clinical tasks, ensuring smooth clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This is an excellent opportunity for students considering careers in healthcare, such as nursing or physician assisting, to gain valuable hands-on experience.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
As a volunteer, your duties include:
Administrative Support:
- Warmly greeting patients and visitors with a professional demeanor.
- Managing the check-in and check-out process for appointments.
- Answering phone calls and directing inquiries to the appropriate staff.
- Providing general administrative support, including filing and organizing documents.
Clinical Assistance:
- Taking vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and glucose finger-prick checks.
- Inputting medical data into the EHR system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Engaging in patient conversations and recording meal logs.
- Ensuring the front desk and infusion room remain clean and well-organized.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Friendly, dependable, and approachable attitude.
- Basic computer proficiency and accurate keyboarding.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, once provided with clear instructions and guidelines.
- Passion in healthcare and patient well-being.
- Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA-compliant office standards.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming and courteous presence at all times.
- No prior medical office experience is required—training will be provided.
Eligibility:
To apply, you must meet all five criteria:
- MUST be 18 or older.
- MUST have a cumulative 3.3 USA G.P.A or better.
- MUST be in good standing with the school.
- MUST be fluent in English.
- MUST have a background or be currently studying science, healthcare, or medicine.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Manual dexterity for clinical and office tasks.
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit for extended periods, and perform occasional errands.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks with a calm and organized approach.
Flexible Volunteer Schedule: 1-2 days per week, 5-6 hours per shift.
