Our story, quickly. In 1993, Dalton Taylor started building plantation shutters one window at a time in Monroe, NC, with his wife Patti and brother Jeff. Thirty-plus years later, that family shop has grown into A Shade Above: three Charlotte-area showrooms, a fourth in North Myrtle Beach, and our own factory in Monroe where we manufacture our own roller shades. We're still a real family company — and we're growing fast. We've already built a strong reputation with homebuilders and commercial GCs across the region, and now we're looking for the right person to build on it and take that business to the next level.
This is a relationship business, and you're the relationship. Builders, developers, and general contractors don't buy from a brochure — they buy from someone they trust to show up, read the job right, and deliver without drama. We've earned that trust with a lot of them already; your job is to deepen those relationships and win new ones. You'd be out in the field every week: shaking hands on job sites, sitting across the table from builders, and making sure that when a project needs window treatments, roller shades, or motorization, A Shade Above is the first call. We manufacture our own roller shades right here in Monroe, so you'll be selling a product we control and stand behind completely — on price, on lead time, and on quality.
We hire for character first. Builders remember who kept their word and who didn't. Skills we can teach — character we can't. Before anything else, we want someone who is:
- Easy to get along with — the kind of person folks are glad to see walk onto the job site.
- Honest and dependable — you mean what you say, and you follow through.
- Glad to be here — ready to work and grateful for it.
- On time, every time. Take care of the little things and we'll trust you with the big ones. Do that and you'll go far here.
You'll fit well if you're a hunter who genuinely likes people and doesn't wait for the phone to ring. You can read a set of plans, take off quantities, and put together an accurate estimate; you understand how builders think and how a construction timeline works; you're organized enough to juggle multiple projects and bids at once; and you're comfortable being the face of the company out in the field. Experience selling into the homebuilder, construction, or trade market is a big plus, and knowing your way around window treatments and motorized shades puts you ahead. If you can read plans and build relationships, we can teach you the rest.
What you'll do. You'll grow our commercial and builder business on the strong foundation we've already laid. Day to day that means nurturing our existing builder and GC relationships while bringing in new ones; meeting with homebuilders, developers, and GCs out in the field; reviewing plans and preparing takeoffs and estimates; quoting and closing projects; and managing those accounts so they come back for the next community and the one after that. You'll be boots on the ground, turning good relationships into standing business.
Be straight with you: this is a salaried role, so you've got the stability to focus on doing the job right and building relationships that last — not chasing this month's number. That said, there's real room to grow here, with bonus opportunities tied to the business you bring in. We're investing in this division for the long haul, and we want someone who wants to grow with it.
