New Heights Academy is seeking a dynamic, culturally responsive High School English Teacher to join our committed team of educators. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature, writing, and helping students develop critical thinking skills. You’ll play a key role in guiding students through diverse texts, analytical writing, and discussions that connect literature to real-world themes and student experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach high school ELA courses aligned to Common Core and Regents standards (Grades 9–12)
- Design and implement rigorous, culturally relevant unit and lesson plans
- Support students in reading comprehension, literary analysis, academic writing, and research
- Use student data to inform instruction and drive academic growth
- Create an inclusive, structured, and engaging classroom environment
- Encourage student voice through discussions, debates, and creative projects
- Provide consistent communication with families about student progress and goals
- Participate in schoolwide events, professional development, and collaborative planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required
- Master’s degree preferred
- New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts (Grades 7–12) or in progress
- Strong classroom management and differentiated instruction skills
- Skilled in integrating literacy technology tools (e.g., Google Docs, CommonLit, NoRedInk, Newsela)
