The Shuttle Driver is responsible for safely transporting passengers to their destinations while providing exceptional customer service. This role involves following scheduled routes, ensuring passenger safety, maintaining a clean and operational vehicle, and adhering to traffic and safety regulations.

Position Criteria:

Valid Iowa driver’s license, required

Class D (chauffeur) license with the "3" (passenger) endorsement, required

School Bus Driver Authorization, may obtain after hire
Performance Criteria:

Operate the bus safely and responsibly on assigned routes, following local, state and federal laws and regulations and organizational policies.

Follow designated routes accurately, in accordance with time schedules and stops.

Perform routine operator maintenance to including but not limited to: pre/post inspections, sweeping interior, wiping upholstery, cleaning windshields, reporting equipment defects and presenting bus for maintenance.

Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property, or failure of mechanical equipment. Report any mechanical issues to the operations department.

Greet and assist passengers withholding and uploading including those with special needs (e.g. wheelchair users in boarding and exiting the bus)

Maintain a friendly, approachable attitude and respond to passenger inquiries in a polite manner.

Enforce passenger safety rules, including the use of seatbelts (if applicable) and the restriction of unsafe behavior.

Maintain appropriate student behavior on the bus and report policy infractions as appropriate.

Adjust routes based on traffic conditions, weather, or emergency detours, and inform passengers of any significant changes.

Communicate with dispatch or supervisors regarding route changes, delays, or any incidents.

Monitor passengers to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Keep and handle all student information in a confidential manner.

Handle emergency situations appropriately and calmly, including assisting passengers in the event of an accident or other incidents.

Complete and maintain accurate records, including mileage logs, incident reports, and time sheets.

Report accidents, traffic violations, or other safety-related incidents to supervisors.

Participate in & complete all training pertaining to the job.

Assist operations department as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
