About North Hills Pet Care
North Hills Pet Care is a growing local pet care company providing professional, team-based care for pets in their own homes. We offer dog walking, drop-in pet care, overnight pet sitting, and live-in pet sitting throughout Pittsburgh’s North Hills.
We are a young business actively building our local client base, so this is a flexible, part-time opportunity best suited for someone looking for supplemental income rather than guaranteed full-time hours. If you are dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable spending extended time in clients’ homes, and experienced with pets who need a higher level of support, we would love to meet you.
Position Overview
We are hiring experienced Live-In Pet Sitters for pets who need more support than standard drop-in visits or overnight care alone.
Live-In Pet Sitting includes overnight care plus extended daytime presence in the client’s home. This service may be a good fit for puppies, senior pets, pets with anxiety, pets with medication needs, large dogs, or households with more involved routines.
This position may be a good fit for someone with flexible remote work or online coursework, provided pet care responsibilities remain the priority during the assignment.
This is not a passive house-sitting role. Live-In Pet Sitters are expected to be engaged, attentive, and able to follow detailed care instructions throughout the assignment.
Current and upcoming assignments may include large dogs, puppies, and pets requiring medication, so previous hands-on pet care experience is required for this role.

Compensation
Starting at $116 per standard live-in care day. Live-in assignments are paid at $7.25 per paid hour. A standard live-in care day includes 16 paid hours and designated unpaid sleep time when applicable.
Custom schedules are paid based on the assigned hours and care structure.
Responsibilities
Live-In Pet Sitters may be responsible for:
- Staying in the client’s home for extended assignments
- Providing overnight care and extended daytime presence
- Feeding pets according to detailed instructions
- Walking dogs and providing potty breaks
- Administering medication when needed
- Caring for puppies, senior pets, large dogs, anxious pets, and multi-pet households
- Following each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible
- Monitoring pets for changes in behavior, appetite, bathroom habits, or comfort
- Sending professional updates and photos through our scheduling app
- Keeping the client’s home secure, tidy, and respected
- Communicating promptly with the owner/manager if questions or concerns arise
Scheduling & Service Area
Assignments are based on client travel schedules and are not guaranteed weekly.
Most assignments will be in:
- Mars
- Cranberry Township
- Wexford
- Warrendale
- Surrounding North Hills communities
Live-in assignments vary based on the client’s departure and return times, the pet’s routine, how long the pet can comfortably be left alone, and the level of care required.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be able to pass a background check
- Have a valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and current auto insurance
- Have a smartphone for scheduling, communication, and visit updates
- Be comfortable staying in clients’ homes for extended periods
- Have previous hands-on pet care experience
- Have experience with large dogs, puppies, and/or medication administration
- Be dependable, detail-oriented, and professional
- Be comfortable following detailed written care instructions
- Be able to maintain a clean, respectful presence in a client’s home
Preferred Experience
The strongest candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
- Large dogs
- Puppies
- Senior pets
- Pets with anxiety
- Medication administration
- Multi-pet households
- Overnight or live-in pet sitting
- Professional pet care, veterinary, kennel, rescue, fostering, or animal care work
