- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, and filling holes and cracks
- Apply paint or other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers, or sprayers
- Mix and match colors to achieve desired results
- Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape to protect surrounding areas
- Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment
- Follow safety guidelines and use protective gear when necessary

- Trim Carpentry: Ability to install and repair trim, such as baseboards, crown molding, and window casings
- Color Theory: Understanding of how colors interact and ability to create harmonious color schemes
- Restoration: Knowledge of techniques for restoring damaged or deteriorated surfaces
- Maintenance: Ability to maintain painted surfaces by cleaning, touch-ups, or repainting as needed
- Concrete Finishing: Experience in applying paint or coatings to concrete surfaces
- Fixture Installation: Proficiency in installing light fixtures, switches, and outlets without damaging painted surfaces
- Blueprint Reading: Skill in interpreting blueprints or drawings to determine painting requirements
- Hand Tools: Familiarity with various hand tools used in painting, such as brushes, rollers, scrapers, and putty knives
- Plaster: Knowledge of plastering techniques for repairing or smoothing walls and ceilings
- Frame Carpentry: Ability to construct or repair wooden frames for doors, windows, or cabinets
