Job Summary
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and professional round-trip transportation services for children with special needs between their homes and schools. Serving in a Relief Driver capacity, this position provides coverage for planned and unplanned driver absences, supports daily transportation operations, and helps ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, punctuality, professionalism, and exceptional customer service while treating each child with dignity, respect, and compassion. The Driver is expected to maintain a positive and supportive environment, adhere to all company policies and transportation regulations, and ensure the well-being of students throughout the transportation process.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring that students arrive at their destinations safely, on time, and ready to participate in their educational programs.

Responsibilities
- Safe Vehicle Operation: Safely operate vehicles equipped for special needs transportation, adhering to all traffic laws and company safety protocols
- Student Transportation: Transport children with special needs according to established routes and schedules
- Supportive Environment: Create a positive, supportive environment for all passengers during transport
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records including trip logs, attendance sheets, and incident reports
- Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatch regarding route changes, delays, or concerns
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Transportation Assistants, parents, caregivers, and school staff.
- Conduct Vehicle Sweeps - Driver is to ensure after each route that all children has properly exited the vehicle
- Confidentiality: Uphold strict confidentiality standards regarding student information.
Requirements
- Clean driving record with no major violations
- Previous student transportation experience
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs
- Background in caregiving, education, or special education support
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check and drug screening
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional patience, empathy, and attention to detail
- Reliable transportation to report to work location
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain consistent schedules
- Proficiency in driving manual transmission vehicles is preferred
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulatory compliance at all times
Pay: $20.00 per hour
