Role Mission:
We are looking for a marine technical expert to bridge the gap between our engineering team and our customers. You’ll be the manager of our Complete Controls® line, ensuring seamless integration on world-class vessels.
Specific Responsibilities:
In cooperation and conjunction with Glendinning senior management, the engineering teams, and the Customer Service staff:
- Technical Support & Sales Liaison:
a) Assisting with customer inquiries by recommending the correct product configuration and system layout for specific vessel/engine applications.
b) Collaborating on technical aspects of quotes and orders, ensuring accurate system specifications are entered into the company ERP system.
c) Compiling, organizing, and maintaining comprehensive technical data sets, including engine make/model compatibility lists, harness requirements, connectors, pinouts, and interface details to support engineering drawings and customer installations.
d) Identifying opportunities for minor hardware/software modifications and communicating requirements clearly to the engineering team.
e) As required, provide limited on-site technical support to customers, dealers, or OEMs (boatbuilders) and participate in selected trade shows (approximately 2–3 per year) to deliver technical training or application expertise.
- Documentation and Compliance:
a) Technical manuals and installation guides
b) Troubleshooting documents
c) DVTP (Design Verification Test Procedure) documents
d) USCG Type T and K compliance documentation
e) Other customer- and internal-facing resources
f) Ensure documentation is clear, accurate, and up to date to support installers, dealers, and end-users.
a) Participation in technical investigations of returned products, root-cause analysis, and recommendations for product improvements or enhancements.
b) Provide advanced technical troubleshooting support to customers, dealers, and installers during and after product installation, including coordination with the engineering team when field issues require deeper investigation or resolution.
a) Help contribute to product extensions, improvements, or new marine control system solutions to the embedded software, mechanical, and test engineering teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities Essential for This Position
- Marine Systems Expert – 5+ years’ experience with propulsion/electronic controls for major OEMs (Cummins, Cat, Volvo Penta, etc.
- Marine electrical expertise – Thorough understanding of marine electrical systems, including voltage, current, resistance, digital communications, harness design, pinouts, and connectors. Experience with NMEA 2000 network systems and NEMA standards is strongly preferred.
- Technical documentation and data management – Proven ability to write and edit technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, compliance documents (USCG Type T/K), and organize large volumes of complex technical data into usable formats.
- Cross-functional collaboration – Ability to work effectively with embedded software engineers, mechanical engineers, test engineers, QA, and sales teams.
- Communication and tools – Articulate verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), schematic reading, and basic CAD/Visio skills.
- Self-starter mindset – Willingness to learn new concepts quickly and proactively drive technical support and documentation initiatives.
