Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate rear-load, split body, Curotto, or automated side-load trucks on assigned routes
- Collect and transport waste to designated post-collection facilities
- Assist helpers with loading waste into the hopper as needed
- Ensure proper use of spotters/helpers when backing up in accordance with company safety policies
- Operate hydraulic/mechanical packers to compact waste efficiently
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and complete vehicle condition reports
- Maintain compliance with DOT logbooks, route sheets, and safety documentation
- Navigate routes using GPS and key maps to ensure timely service
- Maintain cleanliness of customer sites and surrounding areas during and after service
- Monitor operations for safety hazards such as loose debris or prohibited materials
- Communicate professionally with customers and escalate issues as needed
- Follow all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Class A or B)
- Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience or recent CDL school completion
- Must be 21 years or older
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and safety-sensitive requirements
- Strong understanding of safe driving and equipment operation
Preferred Experience
- Waste management, recycling, or environmental services industry
- Experience with route-based driving, fleet operations, or heavy equipment
- Familiarity with rear-load, ASL, or Curotto systems
Skills & Abilities
- Strong awareness of vehicle safety, maintenance, and inspection procedures
- Ability to safely maneuver trucks in tight, high-traffic environments
- Knowledge of hazardous/unacceptable waste identification
- Solid communication skills with both team members and customers
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 75% of shift)
- Comfortable working in physically demanding, outdoor environments
Working Conditions
- 100% outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Exposure to noise, moving equipment, traffic, and environmental elements
