Dermatology & Plastic Surgery of Arizona is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and motivated Mohs Histology Technician / Histotechnician to support our Tucson and Sierra Vista offices. This position plays a vital role in supporting our Mohs surgeon by preparing high-quality tissue specimens and slides for diagnosis while ensuring compliance with all laboratory regulations and quality standards. The ideal candidate is flexible and willing to travel between our Tucson and Sierra Vista locations as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue specimens for frozen section processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping.
- Produce accurate, high-quality slides for Mohs surgeon interpretation.
- Receive, accession, label, and process specimens using laboratory procedures and the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain accurate specimen identification and documentation throughout the testing process.
- Perform gross examination of specimens when authorized and qualified under CAP/CLIA regulations.
- Prepare and send slides for peer review or outside consultation according to laboratory policy.
- Maintain laboratory quality control procedures and documentation.
- Record required temperature logs, reagent maintenance, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance records.
- Maintain laboratory manuals, safety documentation, SDS sheets, and regulatory records.
- Clean, disinfect, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Organize and archive slides, blocks, reports, and laboratory records according to regulatory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and all applicable laboratory regulations.
- Communicate professionally with physicians, staff, patients, and outside laboratories.
- Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and cross-training.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between office locations as needed.
Preferred
- Associate degree in a laboratory science or related field.
- 1+ year of histology or laboratory experience.
- 1–2 years of Mohs laboratory experience.
- HT or HTL (ASCP) certification, or eligibility, is a plus.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity necessary for tissue processing and microtomy.
- Normal color vision and visual acuity.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
