This is a senior, independent-contributor leadership role requiring deep expertise in press automation, project management, and team mentorship.
What you'll do
- Lead press control upgrades, installations, and start-ups from inception to completion — on time and on budget — across Michigan and Tennessee facilities.
- Develop and standardize SmartPac, die protection, and tonnage monitoring systems across all presses, ensuring uniformity and operational efficiency.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex press and control system issues, minimizing downtime and driving measurable performance improvements.
- Train and mentor junior technicians; provide technical guidance to engineering and maintenance teams.
- Conduct OSHA, MIOSHA, TOSHA, and ANSI compliance audits and lead corrective actions; drive air conservation and Lean continuous improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, or Mechanical Engineering (or a related technical field), preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with press control systems, automation, and equipment maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency programming and configuring Wintriss SmartPac 1 & 2, PLCs, and related automation systems.
- Proven track record leading complex technical projects, including budget management and cross-functional team coordination.
- Overhead crane and forklift certification required.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Willingness to travel frequently between Michigan and Tennessee sites, work extended hours during large-scale installations, and thrive under deadline pressure.
Working conditions
This role operates across both office and manufacturing environments, with exposure to noise, machinery, and industrial safety hazards. Frequent multi-site travel to Michigan and Tennessee is required. Extended hours may be necessary during major installations or project milestones.
