Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) Direct Support Professional to join our team. Direct Care staff work under the direction of the Qualified Professional (QP) and support program participants in all activities of the program.
Responsibilities
- Comply with The Arc of Greensboro's policies and procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and protecting the safety of participants.
- Contribute information and insights for each participant's planning team to assist in developing and implementing each participant's Person-Centered plan.
- Provide direct support and assistance based on the participant's individualized Person- Centered Plan.
- Services may be provided in the participant's home and in the community
- Assist and support participants in utilizing the community and its resources.
- Assist and support participants to make informed choices.
- Acts as an advocate for participants to protect their rights.
- Assist and support people to realize their goals and attain personal outcomes.
- Teach independent living and social skills.
- Provide an environment that is empowering and promotes self-determination.
- Demonstrate positive regard for all participants and maintain an engaging, stimulating and respectful environment.
- Practice positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques
- Complete all required data collection and documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of all participant information.
- Maintain an effective relationship with parents, families, guardians and significant others.
- Maintain a flexible schedule as indicated by the needs of the program.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Ability to interact with individuals with a variety of lntellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities in a respectful and empowering manner.
- At least one (I) year experience working with individuals with IDD is preferred.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize computer systems for entering required data.
- The ability to complete documentation as required.
- Ability to understand and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Excellent verbal skills.
- Ability to interact with a variety of people.
- Must be current or willing to become current and stay current in CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens, and NCI Training.
- Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Exercise good judgement in the face of challenging situations.
- Believe in the intrinsic value of all people.
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
