Duties
- Provide comprehensive nursing assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and patient history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following HIPAA guidelines and aseptic techniques, including IV infusions and medication management for acute pain or chronic conditions.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments, manage airway and ventilator support when necessary, and perform advanced procedures like suturing or catheterization.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the needs of patients with complex conditions such as infectious disease, trauma, or geriatrics.
- Conduct patient triage in emergency situations, prioritize urgent care needs, and coordinate transfers for Level I or Level II trauma cases or ICU admissions.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with medical records standards including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding.
- Educate patients and families on health management strategies, discharge planning, nutrition, and post-acute care options such as hospice & palliative medicine or long-term care.
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current state registration.
- Proven experience in medical-surgical units or telemetry with familiarity in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or ICU settings.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients or individuals with disabilities.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is preferred.
- Ability to perform sterile procedures like phlebotomy, specimen collection, tube feeding management, and ostomy care confidently.
- Critical care experience including ventilator management and acute response procedures is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration.
