A unique opportunity to combine sophisticated litigation and proactive counseling
This is not a traditional employment counsel role.
Approximately half of your time will be spent partnering with outside counsel on significant employment litigation matters, including wage and hour class actions, collective actions, discrimination claims, and ERISA-related litigation. The other half will focus on helping the business proactively identify and address wage and hour risks before they become litigation.
This role is ideal for an attorney with substantial experience handling employment class and collective actions at a national law firm who wants to apply that experience in-house while remaining closely connected to complex legal strategy and business decision-making.
We're especially interested in senior associates and counsel level attorneys who have played a significant role in managing class/collective employment litigation, including taking and defending depositions, expert and non-expert discovery strategy, work with experts, class certification and dispositive motions briefing, and client counseling. We recognize that many strong candidates will have developed this experience as senior associates or counsel working alongside supervising partners on large matters.
What You'll Do
1) Serve as the primary in-house partner on significant employment litigation
-
Partner closely with outside counsel on employment class actions, collective actions, and other complex employment matters
-
Contribute to litigation strategy, discovery planning, motion practice, settlement evaluation, and case management
-
Assess legal and business risk and advise internal stakeholders on potential outcomes and exposure
-
Help ensure legal strategy aligns with business objectives and practical realities
-
Build strong relationships with litigation counsel and internal business partners
2) Use litigation insights to prevent future risk
-
Advise HR, Finance, and business leaders on wage and hour compliance
-
Counsel on employee classification, compensation programs, incentive plans, and multi-state pay practices
-
Identify emerging issues and recommend practical, business-oriented solutions
-
Help design policies and practices that stand up across jurisdictions and reduce litigation risk
3) Translate complex legal issues into business decisions
-
Analyze evolving employment laws, including wage and hour developments, multi-state requirements, and California/PAGA issues
-
Deliver clear, practical guidance that business leaders can implement
-
Conduct root-cause analyses when issues arise and recommend sustainable solutions
-
Partner with stakeholders to implement meaningful changes, not simply provide legal advice
Who We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will have:
-
Approximately 6+ years of employment law experience
-
Significant experience with employment class actions, collective actions, wage and hour litigation, and/or PAGA matters
-
Experience at a national or highly regarded employment litigation practice
-
Meaningful responsibility for major litigation matters, including some combination of:
-
Taking and defending depositions
-
Managing complex discovery
-
Working with experts
-
Drafting class certification, summary judgment, and other significant motions
-
Counseling clients regarding legal risk and litigation strategy
-
Strong judgment and an interest in combining litigation strategy with proactive employment counseling
-
The ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business advice
What Success Looks Like
You quickly become a trusted advisor to both business leaders and outside counsel. You are able to evaluate litigation risk, influence case strategy, and provide practical guidance that helps the business make informed decisions. Your experience handling complex employment litigation directly informs policies, practices, and business decisions that reduce future risk and improve outcomes.
Candidates with relevant experience as senior associates or counsel at law firms are strongly encouraged to apply.
At Edward Jones, we are building a place where everyone feels like they belong. We're proud of our associates' contributions to the firm and the recognitions we have received.
