Supervises day-to-day operations of the assigned Division, including assigning cases to investigators; assists in training of personnel; assists in examination and interview process for Law Enforcement Division personnel; assists in timely presentation of criminal cases to District Attorney’s Office and timely completion of division reports, civil service, and other law enforcement-related reports. This position is also responsible as a supervisor role in Law Enforcement to assigned divisions as well as filling in when needed for other Lieutenants and Divisions.
Preserves the peace within Lubbock County by use of all lawful means and shall, when authorized by law, interfere to prevent or suppress crime. Sworn to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of Texas.
- Plans, directs, coordinates, and assigns law enforcement activities, including reviewing calls for service, investigations, follow-up investigations, animal control, environmental, civil service, communications, academy, range, and courthouse security, evaluating performance and advising assigned personnel concerning their assignments.

Responds to calls for service as needed.

Serves Civil Process as needed.

Provides Courthouse Security as needed.

Assigns cases to investigators and monitors progress of cases.

Works on-call duty as needed.

Writes, approves, and executes search warrants and arrest warrants.

Writes/Approves destruction orders.

Assists in the training of division personnel and in the training of other law enforcement personnel.

Approves or disapproves all leave time requests.

Approves probable cause affidavits for arrest warrants.

Assists in the examination and interview process in the selection of all law enforcement personnel.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily as listed in this document
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required; Advanced TCOLE Peace Officer certification required; five years of law enforcement investigative experience from any of the following: C.I.D., Civil, Patrol, Narcotics, or Warrants. Five years of increasing management responsibility in law enforcement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and county laws, codes and regulations; Criminal and civil law; laws of arrest and search and seizure; supervisory management; investigations; Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) rules and regulations; and department policies and procedures. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals; Interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations. Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Advanced Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
