THE COMPANY
Bridge 13 strives to reduce food waste by redirecting excess food to organizations that distribute it to those in need throughout the Portland area.
To date, we’ve rescued over 46,000 pounds of surplus prepared food, produce, and shelf stable foodstuffs, which is more than 39,000 meals for the Portland community! Each donation reduces waste, lowers carbon emissions, and directly supports the neighborhoods where our partners operate. By turning surplus food into nourishment, we ensure good food never goes to waste and that those facing food insecurity have access to fresh, healthy meals.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for part-time (15 hours/week on average) delivery couriers to join our program in Portland. You’ll be a key part of the team, serving as the link between donors and distributors. This is a flexible, in-the-field role perfect for someone who’s dependable, organized, and mission-driven. We value drivers of all different backgrounds and encourage all to apply. Couriers will work closely with our Logistics Coordinator to complete requested pickups and deliveries. You’ll play a key role in ensuring everything runs smoothly as we continue to scale.
Pay is $20/hour plus mileage reimbursement for using your personal vehicle. Commuting mileage from your home to the storage space in central Portland is not covered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pick up and deliver food ordered between vendors, partners, and distributors
- Requires use of a personal vehicle and proof of car insurance
- Communicate with our Operations team to ensure smooth coordination before, during, and after a route is completed
- Accurately track and record the weight of donations at the time of pick up
- Using a personal device (smart phone) to communicate and follow delivery instructions, including taking and sharing photos of delivery receipts
- Represent Bridge 13 in a professional, community-focused manner
- Share real-time feedback to help us improve routes, communication, timing and operations
- Clean delivery bins after each shift
QUALIFICATIONS
- Based in Portland with reliable access to a vehicle
- Maintains a clean driving record and is comfortable navigating the city
- This job requires a background check
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Punctual, dependable, and able to work independently
- Friendly, respectful, and adaptable
- Bonus: You have weekday hours available between 8am-5pm.
