Job Summary
The Assistant Farm Manager supports the Farm Manager in the daily operation of the farm by helping oversee planting, irrigation, cultivation, harvesting, equipment maintenance, employee supervision, and compliance with company safety and food safety standards. This position is hands-on and requires strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills to ensure efficient farm operations and high-quality crop production.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFarm Operations
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and supervising daily farming activities.
- Monitor crop growth and field conditions to identify potential issues.
- Coordinate planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and harvesting schedules.
- Help ensure crops are produced efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production and field records.
Employee Supervision
- Assist with supervising and training farm employees.
- Assign daily work responsibilities and monitor productivity.
- Promote teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
- Enforce company policies and safety procedures.
- Assist with employee evaluations and coaching.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Monitor the operation and maintenance of tractors, irrigation systems, harvest equipment, and other machinery.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
- Report major equipment issues to the Farm Manager.
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
Irrigation & Crop Management
- Monitor irrigation schedules and adjust based on weather and crop conditions.
- Assist with fertilizer and chemical application programs in accordance with regulations.
- Scout fields for weeds, insects, disease, and other crop concerns.
- Communicate recommendations to the Farm Manager.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Follow food safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure employees use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with inspections, audits, and required documentation.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate field logs, equipment records, and employee time records.
- Assist with inventory management for seed, fertilizer, chemicals, fuel, and supplies.
- Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors as directed.
- Assist in preparing reports and production records.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; agricultural degree or technical training preferred.
- 3–5 years of agricultural or farm experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of crop production, irrigation, and farm equipment.
- Ability to safely operate agricultural equipment.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required. Must have clean DMV record.

- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and recordkeeping software.
- Ability to work independently while supporting the Farm Manager.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and dust.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to safely operate tractors, pickups, forklifts, and other agricultural equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours during planting, irrigation, and harvest seasons.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, year-round position.
- Hours vary depending on seasonal demands.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required during peak farming periods.

Pay: $57,400.00 - $58,500.00 per year
