Our Westford, MA based client in the service industry is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant/Accounting Manager to oversee our accounting and financial reporting functions. This role would be joining a small team comprised of a CFO, Controller, two Staff Accountants and a few transactional accounting clerks. You will manage core financial processes, maintain accurate records, and partner with senior leadership (CFO and Controller) to drive business decisions.
This would be a Mon-Fri in-office position with traditional office hours and may offer some work from home potential down the road once both parties are comfortable with one another.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & General Ledger: Oversee general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, and produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Month-End & Close Management: Lead or assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, investigating budget variances and ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Cash Flow & AP/AR Oversight: Monitor cash activity, bank reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable workflows.
- Internal Controls & Audits: Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and policies, and support internal/external audit requirements.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Mentor accounting staff, review team deliverables, and partner with management on budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including prior senior or supervisory roles.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Strong mastery of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and modern accounting/financial reporting software.
- Preferred: Active CPA or CPA-track, multi-entity experience, and a background in budgeting/forecasting.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills for collaborating across departments and presenting to leadership.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Environment: Professional office setting with standard computer workstation duties.
- Schedule: Full-time; occasional extended hours may be required during critical periods such as month-end close, year-end, and audits.
