Duties
- Conduct thorough eye examinations using advanced diagnostic tools to assess visual acuity, eye health, and overall ocular function
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions including refractive errors, glaucoma, cataracts, and ocular infections
- Prescribe corrective lenses and recommend appropriate treatments or interventions based on patient needs
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of prescribed eyewear or medications
- Collaborate with ophthalmology specialists for complex cases requiring advanced intervention in ophthalmology or surgical procedures
- Ensure aseptic technique during examinations and procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment
- Stay current with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology principles, and emerging trends in optometry and ophthalmology
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles and ocular physiology to accurately diagnose and manage eye conditions
- Proven optical experience with proficiency in fitting contact lenses, glasses, and other visual aids
- Experience working with pediatric patients (pediatrics) to address unique vision needs of children
- Excellent patient care skills with a focus on customer service and effective communication
- Familiarity with medical coding for billing purposes and documentation accuracy
- Ability to operate EMR/EHR systems efficiently for record keeping and appointment scheduling
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Competence in taking vital signs such as blood pressure or pulse when necessary for comprehensive assessments
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye health and general medicine
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team while maintaining a high standard of professionalism
