Veterinary Technician – Experienced | Privately Owned Practice
Pay: $23–24/hour, depending on experience and skill level
Lake Region Animal Hospital is a busy, privately owned small-animal practice in Windham, Maine looking for an experienced veterinary technician or veterinary assistant to join our team.
We’re looking for someone who already has a solid foundation in veterinary medicine and can step into an active role in patient care. You do not need to be a licensed veterinary technician, and you do not need to check every box below. We care much more about your practical skills, reliability, willingness to learn, and ability to work well with a team.
Our technicians and assistants are an important part of how we practice medicine. Team members are encouraged to use their skills, think critically, and take an active role in patient care rather than simply providing restraint or support.
What You’ll Do
Depending on your experience and skill level, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting doctors during appointments and treatments
- Venipuncture and sample collection
- IV catheter placement
- In-house laboratory testing
- Caring for hospitalized patients
- Preparing patients for surgery and dental procedures
- Monitoring anesthesia and providing recovery care
- Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
- Client education and communication
- Maintaining accurate medical records
Surgery and anesthesia are an important part of this position, with surgical procedures typically performed a couple of mornings each week. Previous anesthesia experience is preferred, but we are willing to provide additional training to someone with a strong veterinary foundation.
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience working in a small-animal veterinary hospital is required.
Our ideal candidate is comfortable with common veterinary nursing skills such as patient handling, venipuncture, and sample collection and is interested in continuing to develop their technical skills.
Experience with IV catheter placement, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, dental radiography, and Fear Free handling is a plus, but we don’t expect every applicant to already be proficient in everything.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who:
- Is dependable and takes pride in their work
- Communicates well with coworkers and clients
- Can stay organized and adapt when the day gets busy
- Wants to learn and continue developing their skills
- Enjoys working collaboratively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and receptionists
- Genuinely cares about providing excellent patient care
