Position Overview
Doug Fir Billing is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our growing remote team. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently. We believe the best outcomes come from collaboration and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Enter and review insurance claim information
- Audit, prepare, and submit claims accurately and timely
- Learn and navigate multiple billing platforms
- Monitor patient accounts and accounts receivable
- Research and resolve claim denials
- Follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or underpaid claims Maintain accurate documentation of billing activities
- Assist with credentialing and provider enrollment activities as needed
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations Protect patient information and maintain strict confidentiality standards
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of medical billing experience required
- Strong understanding of medical billing and reimbursement processes
- Ability to identify billing and coding discrepancies
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-motivated with excellent time management and problem-solving abilities Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
- Live in Oregon, Washington, Texas or Missouri.
Preferred Experience
Oregon Medicaid and Medicare billing, outpatient mental health billing, IOP/PHP billing, incident-to billing, credentialing, and provider enrollment. Experience with SimplePractice, MMIS, OneHealthPort, Provider Express, Reliatrax, Availity, EZClaim, TherapyNotes, Office Ally, Jane, and CounSol is highly desirable.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote W-2 position with both part-time and full-time opportunities available. Applicants must have a reliable computer and phone, high-speed secure internet, a private workspace suitable for handling confidential information, and the ability to pass a background check.
This position offers a flexible work schedule. Employees are expected to manage their workload independently while ensuring timely communication with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and team members.

Selection Process
As part of the hiring process, candidates will participate in a 45-minute medical billing assessment designed to evaluate their experience, technical knowledge, accuracy, and ability to navigate common billing scenarios.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
