Position Summary:
Hope Ignites New York is seeking skilled and passionate Academic Tutors to support our high school scholars (grades 9–12) in achieving academic excellence. Tutors deliver focused, high-impact academic support in core subjects, reinforcing classroom learning and building academic confidence.
This position is ideal for professionals or graduate-level students who are available to contribute 6 hours per week and are passionate about equity in education. Preference will be given to candidates with teacher certification or an advanced degree in education or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support (Daily):
- Provide targeted tutoring in core subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language).
- Support homework help, Regents prep, test preparation, and academic projects.
- Maintain clear session notes and track scholar engagement and academic growth.
Team Collaboration (Weekly):
- Attend weekly check-ins with the Director of Academic Initiatives.
- Collaborate with Scholar Services staff to share updates and flag academic concerns.
- Contribute to a supportive and high expectation learning environment.
Academic Planning (Per Term):
- Assist in administering summative and formative assessments.
- Align tutoring support with each scholar’s academic goals and progress reports.
- Participate in training on skill-based tutoring and exam preparation strategies.
Outcomes & Impact:
- Scholars tutored maintain or improve their GPA to 80% or higher each quarter.
- 90% of scheduled tutoring sessions are completed and documented.
- Tutors help scholars build academic self-confidence and stronger study habits.
- Tutors contribute to an environment of excellence, reliability, and positive mentorship.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters or advanced coursework in education preferred.
- Teacher certification strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching or tutoring high school students (minimum 1 year preferred).
- Deep understanding of one or more academic subject areas.
- Professionalism, punctuality, and a student-centered mindset.
- Availability for 6 hours of on-site tutoring weekly between 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
